Hamas says it hasn't rejected ceasefire deal as Witkoff slams response as 'unacceptable'New Foto - Hamas says it hasn't rejected ceasefire deal as Witkoff slams response as 'unacceptable'

Hamas on Saturday said that it has responded to a Gaza ceasefire planput forwardby the US, repeating its call for an end to the war, in a move the US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff called "totally unacceptable." In a statement, Hamas said that its "proposal" to the mediators – Qatar and Egypt — "aims to achieve a permanent ceasefire, a comprehensive withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and ensure the flow of aid to our people and our families in the Gaza Strip." "As part of this agreement, 10 living Israeli prisoners held by the resistance will be released, in addition to the return of 18 bodies, in exchange for an agreed-upon number of Palestinian prisoners," the statement said. A source familiar with the negotiations told CNN that the militant group's response was "positive," but added that it will require further negotiations and clarifications. Hamas' response to the US proposal demanded changes to three key areas, the source said: extending the ceasefire past 60 days, humanitarian assistance, and the positions to which Israeli troops will withdraw. The latest response comes after a senior Hamas official told CNN earlier this week that the group had sent back a three-pronged counterproposal requesting US assurances that the negotiations over a permanent ceasefire will continue and the fighting will not resume after the pause; that humanitarian assistance be carried out through the United Nations; and that the Israeli military pull back to the positions that it held on March 2. Witkoff said in apost on XSaturday that he received Hamas' response, calling it "totally unacceptable" and writing that it "only takes us backward." "Hamas should accept the framework proposal we put forward as the basis for proximity talks, which we can begin immediately this coming week," Witkoff continued. Slamming the US envoy's comments as having "complete bias," Basem Naim, a member of Hamas' political bureau, told CNN that the US had previously agreed upon a ceasefire proposal with Hamas which was then amended by Israel. Hamas then submitted an updated counterproposal over the weekend, Naim said. "We did not reject Mr. Witkoff's proposal," Naim said. "Last week we came to an agreement and understanding with him on a proposal, which he deemed acceptable for negotiation," he continued. "We were then presented with the Israeli response, which disagreed with all the provisions we had agreed upon." "Why, each time, is the Israeli response considered the only response for negotiation? This violates the integrity and fairness of mediation and constitutes a complete bias towards the other side," Naim said. An Israeli official told CNN on Saturday that they saw the militant group's latest response as having "effectively rejected the latest Witkoff proposal and put forward a new offer with its own conditions." Later the same day, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office reiterated Witkoff's reaction to Hamas' response, saying in a statement: "While Israel has agreed to the updated Witkoff outline for the release of our hostages, Hamas continues to adhere to its refusal." "Israel will continue its action for the return of our hostages and the defeat of Hamas," the statement said. The US-backed and Israel-approved proposal seen by CNN on FridayincludesHamas releasing 10 Israeli hostages and 18 deceased hostages in exchange for 125 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences and 1,111 Gazans detained since the war began. Negotiations toward a permanent ceasefire would begin immediately on the first day of the 60-day truce, according to the US proposal. The terms of the agreement would also allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza "immediately" and be distributed "through agreed upon channels," including the United Nations and the Red Crescent, according to the proposal. But the draft agreement contained no intrinsic guarantee of a permanent end to the war, a key Hamas demand, nor assurances that the ceasefire will be extended as long as negotiations continue. Instead, it said that US President Donald Trump is "committed to working to ensure that good faith negotiations continue until a final agreement is reached." Hamas had initially signaled reluctance to accept the terms of the deal. Bassem Naim, a member of the Hamas political bureau, said on Facebook Thursday that the framework did "not respond to any of our people's demands" but that discussions were underway, nonetheless. The back-and-forth between Israel and Hamas comes as famine conditions worsen in the Gaza Strip. Israel's11-week blockadeof humanitarian aid has left the enclave's population facing starvation. Though it was lifted last week, much of the little aid that has entered the strip since has been looted, and several people have been killed afterchaos brokeout near aid distribution sites, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Nearly 80 aid trucks traveling through southern and central Gaza werelooted by desperate civilianson Saturday, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said. In a statement issued on X, the WFP said 77 trucks had crossed into Gaza loaded with flour. All of them "were stopped along the way, with food taken mainly by hungry people trying to feed their families." It added that "after 80 days of a total blockade, communities are starving – and they are no longer willing to let food pass them by." This story has been updated with developments. The individual was not authorized to comment publicly. The White House and NASA did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment. Trump announced last December during the presidential transition that he had chosen Isaacman to be the space agency's next administrator. Isaacman is the CEO and founder of Shift4, a credit card processing company. He also bought a series of spaceflights from SpaceX and conducted the first private spacewalk. Isaacman testified at his Senate confirmation hearing on April 9 and a vote to send his nomination to the full Senate was expected soon. SpaceX is owned bybillionaire Elon Musk, a Trump supporter and adviser who announced this week that he is leaving the government after several months at the helm of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Trump created the agency to slash the size of government and put Musk in charge. Semafor was first to report that the White House had decided to pull Isaacman's nomination.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested in connection with a shooting at a mall in Michigan that injured two people, according to police. TheMeridian Township Police Departmentsaid the shooting occurred on Friday, May 30, at the Meridian Mall in Okemos, around 7 miles from Lansing. Officers responded to the area after receiving reports of gunfire in the parking lot near Dick's Sporting Goods. Those involved fled the area before the police arrived, according to the department. Two people suffered gunshot wounds as a result of the incident, the department said. Officers later identified and interviewed the involved individuals at a local hospital. Following the interviews, officers took the 19-year-old woman from Lansing into custody, police said. Police did not share what possible charges the unidentified woman could face. The conditions of the two injured individuals are unclear. USA TODAY contacted Meridian Township police on May 31 but has not received a response. Now the police are asking for the public's assistance in finding the vehicles believed to be involved in the shooting, including a burgundy sedan, possibly a Chrysler 300 or Toyota Camry with dark-tinted windows and dark colored rims, and a black sedan, possibly a Chevy Malibu with tinted windows. Once police secured the area, they said, "There is no threat to the public at this time." The mall has also since reopened for business, according to the department. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding this incident can call the Meridian Township Police Department at 517-853-4800. Doechii Rocks the Edge — 100 Stories Above New York — With Short But Spicy SetNew Foto - Doechii Rocks the Edge — 100 Stories Above New York — With Short But Spicy Set

Although it occasionally hosts performances, the Edge — the sky-scraping outdoor observation deck and club 100 stories and 1,130 feet above New York City — is not really known as a concert venue. But as part of Samsung's multi-faceted partnership with red-hot rapper Doechii — who was named "Hip-Hop Disruptor of the Year" atVariety's 2024 Hitmakerscelebration — around its new Galaxy S25 Edge phone, the Edge was the setting for not only a short but powerful livestreamed performance on Friday night, the entire place was tricked out as a "swamp in the sky," filled mock-tropical scenery (playing off of her frequent alligator theme), complete with jungle plants and lots of dry ice. More from Variety AT&T Has the Best Deals on Samsung Mobile Devices and Accessories Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Review: The Best Smartphone to Buy in 2025 Samsung Launches AI Capabilities Across Products at CES In a double-take moment, we saw ads for Doechii's Samsung partnership on the subway ride to Hudson Yards, the mini-megalopolis where the Edge is located — and even more surreally, as we arrived at the Edge, after a fast elevator ride where your ears pop a least twice, there was fog outside the venue, as if the dry ice were somehow leaking out of the windows. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jem Aswad (@jemaswad) Of course, that was actually a cloudy front moving in, which made for some San Francisco-like views as fog shrouded the city's skyline and only the tops of the tallest buildings poked through the clouds. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jem Aswad (@jemaswad) That was the scene inside as several hundred specially invited fabulosos attired in "casual chic" mingled and sipped on the free drinks and snacks served by the wait staff. Shortly before 8 p.m., the doors to the observation deck were opened and the attendees streamed down the illuminated stairs leading to the deck. Music thumped through the powerful speakers as specks of rain fell from the sky, but luckily the serious rain held off until much later in the evening. Finally, after Edge staffers had dried off the double-height steps leading down to the stage set at the edge of the observation deck, the old-school beat of "Peanuts" kicked in and Doechii appeared at the top of the stairway, clad in a billowing beige jacket, matching high socks and spike heels. She and DJ Miss Milan spat verses back and forth as the rapper worked her way down the towering stairs, with each step about two feet below the next — not an easy thing to do while rapping in spike heels, but she pulled it off without a hitch. (Watch a song from the performance near the end ofthis video.) Doechii gradually made her way through the crowd to the stage, swaggering through "Denial Is a River," "Nissan Altima" and one or two others before making her exit. Some were surprised that she didn't play "Anxiety," her biggest hit, but the set focused on high-energy songs and that one's slow tempo would have brought down the energy. (Plus, although artists rarely play full concert sets at events of this nature, one couldn't blame her for wanting to finish before the rain moved in.) And with that, the crowd walked back through the faux-everglades and lined up to catch the elevators back down to the ground floors and reality… or whatever passes for reality in the city-sized megamall of Hudson Yards. Sydney Sweeney Confirms She Is Single and 'Loving It' Post-Jonathan Davino SplitNew Foto - Sydney Sweeney Confirms She Is Single and 'Loving It' Post-Jonathan Davino Split

In March, it was reported that Sydney Sweeney had broken up with her long-time fiancé, Jonathan Davino, but theEuphoriastar held back on commenting—until now. In an interview withThe Timespublished Saturday, the actress confirmed the end of her relationship after three years being engaged. Sweeney was asked if she was in the midst of planning a wedding, to which she responded, "No." When asked if she is single, the star answered, "Yes." "I'm learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I'm loving it," Sweeney added. In late February,TMZreported that the couple had pushed back their wedding, which was set for May 2025. Sources told the publication that the event was "on hiatus" because of the couple's "busy schedule." In March 2025, a source toldUs Weekly,"Sydney and Jonathan have been having major issues but are not fully split. Things are not great right now, but they aren't throwing in the towel yet. They are working on their relationship but have called off the wedding for now." The couple was apparently struggling with Sweeney's busy work schedule. "She doesn't have a lot of downtime, and it causes tension in their relationship," the source said. "Sydney is really focused on her career. Jonathan wishes they were able to spend more quality time together." This meant that the spring wedding was "not happening, and they aren't having further discussions about it," the source said. "Sydney wanted to cancel everything and couldn't handle the stress." Around that same time, another source toldPeoplethat Sweeney and Davino had been "rocky for a long time" when they finally broke it off, and the actress was satisfied with the decision. "She's exactly where she wants to be," said the insider. "Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She's all about working right now and very excited about all her projects. What did make her overwhelmed, though, was her relationship and her wedding. She didn't feel right about it." They continued to share that Sweeney is "in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago. This is what she wants to focus on right now." "She's not ready to settle down," they continued. "They only lasted for this long because it was hard for her to break it off. They didn't split because there is no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now."
