Multiple inmates have escaped from the the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans, Louisiana, police said May 16. Officials at the city jail discovered that inmates were missing during a "routine headcount" conducted Friday morning, the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office's said in a statement. Louisiana State Police said one of the missing detainees had been located and apprehended in the French Quarter, a busy tourist area in New Orleans. "Troopers continue to work closely with our local, state, and federal partners as the search remains active for the remaining escapees. Our priority remains the safety of the community and the swift apprehension of those still at large," state police said in a statement.
