Okla. sheriff's office investigating after school official's TV showed naked women during meetingNew Foto - Okla. sheriff's office investigating after school official's TV showed naked women during meeting

A sheriff's office in Oklahoma is investigating an incident during a state Board of Education meeting last week that reportedly involved images of naked women on the state school superintendent's office television. The images were seen during the board's executive session, held in Superintendent Ryan Walters' office,The Oklahoman newspaper of Oklahoma City reported, citing members Ryan Deatherage and Becky Carson, who attended the meeting. NBC News has not confirmed the accounts of Deatherage and Carson, who were both nominated by Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office has launched a probe, spokesperson Aaron Brilbeck said, after a request from the agency that oversees human resources matters for the state government. Senate President Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton and state Sen. Adam Pugh, both Republicans, said ina joint news releaseFriday that the Office of Management and Enterprise Services, which oversees HR matters, was leading an inquiry into the incident and was working through proper channels to initiate an investigation. "This is a bizarre and troubling situation that raises serious questions about the events and what took place during yesterday's executive session at the Oklahoma State Board of Education meeting," Paxton said in a statement about the Board of Education's meeting, held Thursday. Board members' accounts, he added, "paint a strange, unsettling scene that demands clarity and transparency." The Office of Management and Enterprise Services didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Follow live politics coverage here A legislative assistant to House Common Education Committee Chairman Dick Lowe, Caitlin Kilpatrick, pointed NBC News toreporting by the news outlet NonDocthat said Lowe attended the meeting. Lowe told the publication that while he didn't see the video of the naked women, he discussed the matter with the two board members who did view the images. "Shocked would be maybe an understatement a little bit. In the position that that person is in, that's absolutely without a question not appropriate by any means for any state official, much less that state official," Lowe told NonDoc. Walters, a conservative Republican, characterized the accounts from Deatherage and Carson as "politically motivated attacks" in a statement Monday. "These are desperate lies from a broken establishment terrified of real change," he added. Walters haspushed for proposals to further integrate religion in schools, such as placing Bibles in them. He has alsoadvocated for requiringstudents enrolled in state public schools to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. In an earlier statement after the allegations surrounding the meeting arose, Walters denied any wrongdoing. "Any suggestion that a device of mine was used to stream inappropriate content on the television set is categorically false. I have no knowledge of what was on the TV screen during the alleged incident, and there is absolutely no truth to any implication of wrongdoing," Walters saidSunday on X. Deatherage, Carson and the four other members of the Board of Education, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. State House Speaker Kyle Hilbert, a Republican, called the allegations "serious," and said that "an expeditious third-party review is warranted." "I urge the State Superintendent to unlock and turn over all relevant devices and fully cooperate with an investigation. If no wrongdoing occurred, a prompt and transparent review should quickly clear his name," Hilbert said in a statement Monday. State House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson, a Democrat, said in a statement Monday that the Democratic Caucus has made six calls over the last two years requesting a special bipartisan committee to investigate Walters about other matters. "Before these recent allegations came out, he has shown multiple times throughout his leadership that he has no interest in bettering the public education system for students and teachers. He is mainly concerned with advancing his own political and religious agendas," she said. "These new allegations are serious and troubling, and while we wait for the investigation to be finished, I think it's prudent to acknowledge that there has been a dire need for change in leadership at the Oklahoma State Department of Education for a long time."

Five charged after video of violent altercation in Cincinnati goes viralNew Foto - Five charged after video of violent altercation in Cincinnati goes viral

Police are investigating a violent altercation involving multiple people in downtown Cincinnati on Saturday night after video of the brawl went viral on social media. Police Chief Teresa Theetge said that the incident "was a sudden dispute between individuals following a verbal altercation" and that it was not connected to the Cincinnati Music Festival, which was happening at the same time. Theetge said she is "in complete disgust waking up to the viral video" of the incident circulating online. "The behavior displayed is nothing short of cruel and absolutely unacceptable," she said in a statement Sunday. "Our investigative team is working diligently to identify every individual involved in causing harm." Five people face charges, Theetge told reporters Monday. She declined to identify the suspects or provide more details about their alleged crimes. Those records remain sealed, she said, and some of those who have been charged have not been located. Theetge said she expects more charges. Alcohol was likely to have played a "significant part" in an altercation, which authorities received only one 911 call about, she said. "For us to have 100 or so people down there, involved in or watching this event, recording with their cellphones, and for us to get only one phone call of this incident is unacceptable," she said. Videos circulating online show a chaotic scene involving at least a dozen people. In one video, a few men can be seen standing face-to-face, having what appears to be a verbal altercation, before one man seems to hit another in the face. That seems to set off a full-blown physical altercation, in which the man who threw the first hit is beaten by multiple people in the middle of a street. The violence includes kicks and stomps to his face. The crowd also appears to attack two other men who appear to know the man being beaten. In another video, a woman trying to defend him gets knocked unconscious by someone in the crowd. Blood can be seen running from her mouth as she lies on the ground. It is not clear what happened before the videos were recorded. The incident got much attention on social media over the weekend, particularly on Elon Musk's X, where many high-profile right-wing accounts, such as LibsofTikTok and End Wokeness, framed the fight as an assault by a Black "mob" on a white couple. Musk himself published posts decrying the fight and calling for mainstream media attention. He did not mention race in his post. Prominent Republican politicians also weighed in, with Vice President JD Vance answering a question Monday about the fight, saying he saw a "mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person." Vance's half-brother, Cory Bowman, is running for mayor of Cincinnati and will face the incumbent, Aftab Pureval, in November. Pureval said he was outraged by the fight, calling it "horrifying to watch" and "intolerable" in any part of the city. He said he is confident that arrests are "forthcoming." "That's not who we are as a city," Pureval said in a statement Monday. "Since the fight occurred, I have been in consistent communication with Chief Theetge, and our police have been working around the clock to investigate and bring perpetrators of violence to justice." Pureval reiterated that the altercation was not connected to the Cincinnati Music Festival, Cincinnati Reds games, the Big3 basketball tournament "or any of the large events that took place over the weekend."

Julia Garner reveals intense audition process for Madonna biopic, had to 'convince her that I can dance'New Foto - Julia Garner reveals intense audition process for Madonna biopic, had to 'convince her that I can dance'

Tim P. Whitby/Getty; Fryderyk Gabowicz/picture alliance via Getty Julia Garner recently discussed the intense audition process for Madonna's planned biopic. EW previously reported that Garner was still attached to star as Madonna after the film's delay. Garner said on theSmartLesspodcast that the film is "supposed to still happen." Julia Garnerhad to tackle some difficult preparation material, girl, ahead of landing the role ofMadonnain the pop icon'slong-gestating,self-directed biopic. TheFantastic Four: First Stepsactress andOzarkalum was a guest on Monday's episode of theSmartLesspodcast, during which she told cohostsWill Arnett,Sean Hayes, andJason Batemanthat the audition process for the movie was an intimidating one — and that the delayed film is, to her knowledge, still happening. "I just remembered, were you supposed to play Madonna at some point? Is that going to still happen?" Hayes asked, with the 31-year-old responding, "Yeah, I mean, that's supposed to still happen." She then fielded inquiries about landing the role, telling the trio that she's "such a fan of Madonna's" and "grew up listening" to the legendary pop star. Michael Putland/Getty "It just came about. I knew they were doing a project, making a movie about it, and then I went out to audition," Garner recalled. "I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it, because I wasn't a trained dancer and I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing. And sing with her!" To calm her nerves, the three-time Emmy winner said that she "just thought, 'Okay, what would Madonna do?' Which is convince you that she deserves, you know, to be in this room, and I owned it. I was kind of like, 'You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that's on you.'"Garner again confirmed that the film is still in the works. "But I also feel like anything that's great" indeed "takes a long time" to come to fruition. EW has reached out to representatives for Madonna for more information. Garner first landed the role in 2022, but the project wasdelayed and subsequently removed from Universal's slate in early 2023so Madonna could travel the world on her successful Celebration tour. On the tour, Madonna regularly brought special guests on stage to perform with her, including Garner, who joined Madonna for a segment themed to the hit "Vogue"in New York City. Madonnaeventually returned to work on the film in 2024, and EW confirmed at the time that Garner was still attached to star. 20th Century Studios/Marvel Studios Last July, Madonnashared on Instagrama glimpse of herself revising the movie's screenplay while seated behind a typewriter, with a photo showing that the previously untitled film was, at least then, titledWho's That Girl— a nod to both Madonna's 1987 comedy film and its accompanying No. 1-charting soundtrack single of the same name. Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody and Madonna finished work on their version of the screenplay in 2021, with theJunoscribedeparting the film to work on other projectsafter that. Madonna then partnered with Erin Cressida Wilson on the story, which she previously indicated would follow her "struggle as an artist trying to survive in a man's world as a woman, and really just the journey." She went on to describe the time in her life as a "happy, sad, mad, crazy, good, bad, and ugly" tale of the making of a superstar, including such milestones as her rise through the entertainment industry, releasing"Like a Prayer,"starring inEvita, and her relationship with Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza and Luis Xtravaganza, two members of New York City's Harlem ballroom scene who played an influential part in shaping the success"Vogue."
