Rubio says US officials are in Malaysia to help in Cambodia-Thailand talksNew Foto - Rubio says US officials are in Malaysia to help in Cambodia-Thailand talks

By Kanishka Singh WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said State Department officials were in Malaysia to assist peace efforts as Cambodia and Thailand were scheduled to begin talks there on Monday in hopes for a ceasefire. President Donald Trump and Rubio were engaged with their counterparts for each country and were monitoring the situation very closely, Rubio said in a statement released by the State Department late on Sunday in the U.S. and early Monday in Asia. KEY QUOTES "We want this conflict to end as soon as possible," he said. "State Department officials are on the ground in Malaysia to assist these peace efforts." WHY IT'S IMPORTANT The leaders of Thailand and Cambodia were scheduled to attend mediation talks over their deadly border conflict in Malaysia on Monday, the Thai government said, as both sides accused each other of launching fresh artillery strikes across contested areas. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have intensified since the late-May killing of a Cambodian soldier during a brief border skirmish. Border troops on both sides were reinforced amid a full-blown diplomatic crisis that brought Thailand's fragile coalition government to the brink of collapse. Hostilities resumed on Thursday and, within just four days, escalated into the worst fighting between the Southeast Asian neighbors in more than a decade. CONTEXT The death toll has risen above 30, including 13 civilians in Thailand and eight in Cambodia, while authorities report that more than 200,000 people have been evacuated from border areas. Trump said on Sunday he believed both Thailand and Cambodia wanted to settle their differences after he told the leaders of both countries that he would not conclude trade deals with them unless they ended their fighting. A man and a woman who had recently moved to northwest Arkansas were apparently killed as they hiked in a state park with their school-age daughters, authorities said Sunday. Arkansas State Police identified the victims as Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41. The agency said in a statement that the couple had recently moved to Prairie Grove from out of state. Facebook pages for each, verified by NBC News, say that they have lived in inland California and eastern Montana. Public records place them in Miles City, Montana. State police said the agency was notified of the double homicide in Devil's Den State Park shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday. The park is about 12 miles east of Prairie Grove and about 25 miles south of Fayetteville. "We are heartbroken by today's horrific news from Devil's Den State Park and are in close contact with State Police and the Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism as they work to apprehend the suspect," Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanderssaid Saturday evening on X. She said "law enforcement will not rest" until the killer is found and prosecuted. The victims' daughters, ages 7 and 9, were not harmed and were in the custody of family members, the agency said Sunday. It's not clear whether they witnessed the homicides. A manhunt led by state police is underway. An FBI representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment. State police said the killer is a man with a medium build who was wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, dark pants, a dark baseball cap and fingerless gloves. He may have been seen driving toward a park exit in a black sedan, possibly a Mazda, with tape obscuring its license plate number, state police said. Investigators believe the man may have driven on State Highway 170 or State Highway 220 nearby. No information about the type of weapon used or a motive was available. The Arkansas State Crime Lab will confirm the manner and cause of death, state police said. Detectives hope cellphone and security video can help them crack the case. They called for anyone at the park Saturday with cellphone or GoPro-style imagery to step forward. The area of the park where the homicides took place was off-limits Sunday as the investigation continues, state police said. The couple's bodies were found on a walking trail, the agency said. It described the area as "remote and rural," a region "where the terrain is rugged, vegetation is thick and there is no cellphone service." A state parks spokesperson said all trails at Devil's Den were off-limits until further notice. Last month, a dedication was staged for a newly renovated campground at the park. Arkansas State Parks describes Devil's Den as "a favorite destination for hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians." It is not clear how the double homicide was initially reported.

DOJ shuts down dark web child abuse sites that had 120,000 membersNew Foto - DOJ shuts down dark web child abuse sites that had 120,000 members

When FBI agents arrived outside William Spearman's home in the quiet suburb of Madison, Alabama, in November 2022, they were prepared for danger. Their search warrant was so important to the bureau that it was approved by the FBI director himself. When the agents breached Spearman's door with tactical explosives, Spearman fought back, tussling with the agents as three of his handguns remained barely out of reach. The FBI managed to handcuff and arrest Spearman, a high-value arrest, in what a top Justice Department official called "one of the most successful" prosecutions of its kind. Spearman went by the nickname "Boss" and was labeled by the Justice Department as "one of the most significant" purveyors of child sex abuse material in the world. His arrest in 2022, his guilty plea a year later and his eventual life sentence were part of an unprecedented takedown of a prodigious child abuse network. Spearman is one of at least 18 people convicted so far of leading and utilizing the dark web to share hundreds of thousands of unlawful sexually exploitative images of children. The Justice Department calls the investigation and prosecutions Operation Grayskull; it helped secure those arrests and shutter four heavily trafficked dark web sites where violent and horrific images of child sexual abuse were traded and housed. The Operation Grayskull investigation launched in 2020, when law enforcement agents noticed a spike in traffic to a dark web site suspected of hosting child abuse material. The dark web child abuse sites eventually attracted more than 120,000 members, millions of files and at least 100,000 visits in a single day, according to an FBI official who spoke with CBS News. "Even for prosecutors, it is difficult to understand how pervasive this is," said Matthew Galeotti, head of the Justice Department Criminal Division. "Because it happens on the dark web, people aren't aware of it. It's extremely troubling," he told CBS News. Spearman's case has parallels to many of the others unearthed by Operation Grayskull. Spearman was accused of helping lead a dark web site with thousands of users and members. A sentencing memo submitted to the court said it was "no wonder" that he had tried to resist the FBI, rather than surrendering. "The devices at his desk contained massive quantities of evidence proving that he was the lead administrator of Website A," the memo said. "Unsurprisingly, the defendant's devices also contained an enormous collection of images and videos depicting the rape and abuse of children." Selwyn Rosenstein was sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2022, for  operating a dark website for unlawful exploitative images. Prosecutors said the platform "was not simply a website; it was a large, active community of pedophiles and (abuse material) enthusiasts. And it existed in part because of the Defendant's criminal acts." Rosenstein possessed such a large quantity of abusive images, he needed to store some on a server he used to run his business, according to the Justice Department. Speaking from a second floor conference room at Justice Department headquarters in Washington last week, Galeotti told CBS News the members of these dark web child abuse sites often "earn" membership by paying a fee, "helping moderate the site" or contributing child abuse images or material. Galeotti said, "We luckily have very sophisticated prosecutors and agents who work specifically on this kind of thing. These are people who have a more of a technical understanding." "The defendants in this case, as sadistic as they may be, are somewhat sophisticated," and make use of encryption, he added. Operation Grayskull also secured the conviction of Matthew Garrell of Raleigh, North Carolina, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for operating on a dark web site for abuse material. "Garrell engaged in an extremely complex and technologically sophisticated conspiracy that far exceeds the typical child-exploitation offenses," prosecutors said. They argued in a court filing that Garrell possessed a predator's "handbook," with "detailed instructions" for grooming children for future abuse. The takedown of dark web leaders and users also included the convictions of men from Virginia, Maryland, Indiana, Texas, Washington, Arkansas, Michigan and Oklahoma. "They were part of an online community of hundreds of thousands of people, with leadership roles rules and a common dedicated purpose" said Chris Delzotto, an acting FBI deputy assistant director. Delzotto told CBS News, "Few people would have envisioned how (child abuse materials) would permeate the internet, the way it has today." The federal investigation which uncovered and shuttered the first dark web site, also led to the closure of three others. Abbigail Beccaccio, an FBI unit chief, told CBS News. "The leadership team that operated one of the sites also operated several of the others." The Justice Department is touting the shutdown of those sites as a victory to help deter future abuse or production of unlawful images. "This is one of the most successful of all time," Galeotti said. "We dismantled four websites that have not regenerated." After breaking ground in 2018, Hall H got its first look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art before it's set to open its futuristic doors in 2026. With a personal collection from George Lucas's 50-year art archive, the museum is set to feature artwork and never-before-seen pieces from Norman Rockwell, Frida Kahlo, Jessie Willcox Smith and more. The panel was moderated by Queen Latifah, with Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang as panelists. It's been a long time coming for the Lucas Museum since it was first announced. In 2016, the museum was initially set to begin construction in Chicago near Lake Michigan. After a Chicago-based organization named "Friends of the Parks" filed a lawsuit over the construction on private land, the museum selected Los Angeles as its official building site near Exposition Park. "Art is more about an emotional connection. Not how much it cost, or what celebrity made it. If you have an emotional connection, then it's art. I've worked with hundreds of illustrators in my life, and they're all brilliant, but they don't get recognized for anything. This museum is a temple to the people." The history of LucasFilm at San Diego Comic-Con has existed for over 50 years, with the first "Star Wars" having a panel during the 1976 iteration of the convention. Fans who attended the event got to see still images from "A New Hope," where Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin discussed artwork from "Star Wars." "It's one thing that this kind of art [featured] will celebrate because of science fiction. Science fiction is a myth, but we have made it real," revealed Lucas about the museum's science fiction artworks set to be displayed. "Humans made it real because of science fiction books and art that makes people say, 'Oh, we could go to the moon,' and once that idea is implemented, then we believe we could do it." Jamie Lee Curtis is preparing to leave the spotlight for good. In a recent interview withThe Guardian, Curtis detailed what it was like watching her famous parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, be "rejected" by Hollywood after they reached a "certain age." I have been prepping to get out, so that I don't have to suffer the same as my family did. I want to leave the party before I'm no longer invited." She recently appeared alongside original costar Lindsay Lohan in "Freakier Friday," the sequel to their classic 2003 family comedy. Other cast members include Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. While talking toVarietyat the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, Curtis said Lohan taught her "so much" while filming the Disney sequel. "She has her team, where her two people would be standing on either side of a camera holding a big light,"she said. "It's Lindsay lighting — that would have been good branding — they hold lights so that we look better. So, I've learned a lot from her already. We had a good time. We love each other."
