"The Voice" season 27 winner revealed: 'It was a real surreal moment'

Griffin Nagel/NBC This isThe Voicefor season 27, as voted on by viewers: blues rocker Adam David, from TeamMichael Bublé. When his name was announced, the 34-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., looked genuinely stunned. After all, he almost wasn't even there, but he won the Instant Save during the live semifinals. With the exception of Bublé, each of the celebrity coaches — also includingKelsea Ballerini,John Legend, andAdam Levine— had just one contestant left from their teams in the finals. They were Team Kelsea's country crooner Jaelen Johnston, who placed second; Team Legend's soulful rocker Renzo, who placed third; and Team Adam's genre-defying Lucia Flores-Wiseman, who won fourth. The "Home" singer had two contestants, David and pop singer Jadyn Cree. Bublé won last season in his first outing as a coach, so with David's win, the Canadian coach's streak continues. Cree, the daughter ofThe Voicealum Bryan Olsen, whofinished thirdon the show when he represented Team Legend in the finals back in 2024, placed fifth. She had said Monday that her dad very much wanted her to beat him, but that wasn't to be. The revelation ended a star-studded, two-hour concert that featured coaches performing with their contestants. They had trimmed their initial teams of super talented stars-in-the-making from 12 to one (or two) over the past three months. There was a time when Ballerini even "felt queasy." Other celebrated performers, including coaches from past seasons or international versions of the show, took the stage, too. They includedAlicia Keysand Amanda Reid,Blake Shelton,Kelly Clarkson,Chance the Rapper,Joe Jonas, Foreigner,James BayandSheryl Crow(a mega mentor this season), andBryce Leatherwood, who won the show in 2022. Bublé will return to the show again next season, where he will sit alongside veteran coachesNiall Horan,Reba McEntire, andSnoop Dogg. The Voiceseason 28 premieres this fall. In the meantime,Entertainment Weeklycaught up with David after his win and found out what the experience — and the win — meant to him. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What is the first thing you did after hearing the good news? ADAM DAVID:Everyone rushed the stage, and I was just hugging every single person, every contestant. It could have easily been anybody, and everyone's so amazing, and it was a real surreal moment. Do you remember exactly when you realized this was possible? I hoped and I prayed. I don't think I gave myself the opportunity to believe that itwasn'tgoing to happen, but I was ready. Even when I got called to do my Instant Save, I felt like — going up against Olivia, Bryson, and Iris, I really felt like I was going home. They're so amazing and to have made it through that was a victory. And then to have made it to the end and then to top three and then to top two, is a rush. Which of your performances do you think best encompasses you as an artist? I think that the Allen Stone song ["Unaware"] that I did and "Hard Fought Hallelujah" felt really authentic to me. I loved the Joe Cocker, "You Are So Beautiful." I love that song. But I think those two are probably the kind of music that I tend to put out. What will you miss most about your time onThe Voice? I'm going to miss my friends. I'm going to miss the other contestants. It's kind of like a shared trauma going through something like this. We all got really close. We all got really, really close, and it's a really special thing to go through this with people, and I think I've made some friends for life. I'm going to have to make a lot of effort to stay connected with them. What does this win mean to you? I want to talk about my recovery for just a second, because this win isn't just for me, it's for the people that I got clean with. It's for all the people that I attend meetings with. It's for anybody that's struggling. They say when you get clean, you can have a life beyond your wildest dreams. And I'm a testament to that right now. And I wouldn't be here if I didn't make that decision a little over six years ago, and I want people to know that, because anyone that's struggling to get a day clean, I want them to know that it's possible and just one day at a time. Making movies, big adventure, having a great time," he answered. Cruise has three children. Nor'easter To Bring Nasty Mix Of Wet, Windy And Chilly Conditions To NortheastNew Foto - Nor'easter To Bring Nasty Mix Of Wet, Windy And Chilly Conditions To Northeast

A nor'easter in late May? Yes, it can happen, and the second half of the week will illustrate that with the Northeast seeing a nasty mix of rain, gusty winds and chilly temperatures. The National Weather Service near Boston bluntly summed up the unpleasant forecast in their discussion Tuesday morning: "A late season nor'easter likely brings a cold windswept heavy rain to the region late Wednesday into early Friday." -The Setup:Two areas of low pressure will affect the Northeast Wednesday through Friday – one across the interior, and another low forming off the coast. It's the coastal low that will eventually become a weak nor'easter as it crawls northward near New England. -Remember:The only requirement for a coastal storm to become a nor'easter is winds coming from a northeast direction off the Atlantic. Nor'easters can range from intense, with snow like we sometimes see in winter, to nuisance ones like this, which only bring rain and gusty winds. (MORE:Nor'easters 101) -Timing The Rain:Steady rainfall will spread into the mid-Atlantic, southern New York and southern New England Wednesday, then across most other parts of New England and New York Wednesday night. On Thursday, the most soaking rain will be in New England and eastern upstate New York, but showers will linger in the rest of New York, parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Widely scattered showers might continue in the Northeast into Friday, especially across the interior. The highest summits of northern New England could see snowfall at times Thursday into Friday. -Rain Impacts:Rainfall could be heavy at times, so pencil in extra time if you are traveling. Some locations could see totals of 1 to 2 inches. Localized nuisance flooding is possible, especially in urban and poor drainage areas, but we don't expect a widespread threat. Another area of concern for possible flooding is recently saturated parts of the Central Appalachians, including from southwest Pennsylvania to western Maryland and northern West Virginia. -Wind:Gusts over 40 mph are possible on the New England coastline Thursday, and some minor coastal flooding can't be ruled out from Chesapeake Bay to southern New England. -Keep That Jacket Handy:This weather pattern will also keep high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees colder than average, with highs only in the 50s for much of the region. Eventually, highs will rise into the still somewhat cool60s through the Memorial Day weekend. The sheriff's office has said the inmates appeared to have used a tool to cut through steel bars behind the toilet and sink fixture. Multiple outlets have reported that they left behind a mocking message on the wall that read: "To Easy LoL." Jail employee Sterling Williams, 33, has been charged with multiple counts of being aprincipal to simple escapeand malfeasance in office. Williams told investigators he complied with a demand from one of the inmates to shut off the water to a cell, allowing the escapees to rip out a toilet and sink unit and climb through the hole in the wall that was created, Murrill said in a statement. In the arrest affidavit, Williams said one of the inmates threatened to stab him with a "shank" − a homemade knife − if he didn't follow instructions. Jermaine Donald, 42, was charged with second-degree murder, according to parish records. The daring escape froma long-troubled facilityhasput some of those closest to the crimes of the fugitives on edge, while other New Orleans residents say they've been going about business as usual. Tess Gonzales, manager of Daisy Mae's Southern Fried Chicken & Breakfast, said there's been some worry inside the bustling diner about the five escaped inmates still out in the streets, but there's also relief now thatfive have been captured in five days. "It's both yes and no. There's some concern for our safety because they are dangerous criminals," Gonzales, 53, told USA TODAY. "But it's not like we're going to stop living our lives." Meanwhile, the prosecutors who put at least one of the inmates behind bars are worried. Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williamstold reporterstwo of the lawyers who tried the case against Groves with him have left town with their families "out of fear of retribution and retaliation."
